“So if you see somebody that's hurting, don't look away. And if you're hurting, even though it might be hard, try to find that bravery within yourself to dive deep and go tell somebody and take them up in your head with you…”- Lady Gaga
i have had this written down for a while now… toO scared of the possible judgement i would receive, Up until I came across the beautiful speech that lady gaga made on accepting her grammy award, and thought fuck it! we need more people to speak out about mental health. this speech sure as hell made me feel less alone in this world.
so here it goes…
This speech really struck a chord for me, and has positively impacted me to share some personal things about myself so that others can connect with me and feel that there is a real person on the other end of that keyboard or that social media outlet.
here are some not so fun and very real/vulnerable facts about me as a person, aside from the business that you see from me so often.
I grew up in various foster homes throughout my whole life, the last one from the age of 7-16 years old being my breaking point and downfall.
I have lived in countless homes with friends, distant family and strangers homes for most of my life.
From the age of 16 I have suffered with severe anxiety and depression (which after a lot of personal development has greatly improved over time, still with a long way to go)
My mum has severe schizophrenia and my dad was an alcoholic whom I unfortunately lost when I was 7.
Not one day, or even hour goes by where I do not have doubts as a person or as a businesswoman.
Along with many other things that have definitely thrown a spanner in the works with me becoming the person i am today.
However, don’t feel pity for me as the above and not so fun facts that I have just shared with you, are what make me a better person and a better #girlboss
I am grateful that I have the life that I do, because there is worse out there. And all that I have been through has taught me love, compassion, selflessness and positivity which in turn has empowered me to start a business that steers clear from anything that does not represent those lessons and traits that I have learnt or picked up along the way.
Aster & Rose, for me, is a place where couples can come to me and be completely open and honest about who they are, how they feel and what they want to portray and share on one of the most special days in their life. But for me, to also be honest with them and be true to myself throughout the process. I think that being this open and in touch with myself and my feelings is what makes me a strong person in life and as a Wedding Planner.
I encourage others within the industry, or in general, to always be open and honest as well as not ashamed to share who they are because by doing so you are allowing others to get to know you on a personal level and to feel comfortable to be themselves as well.
Please, please, please do not feel like because you have had it hard growing up, and life has dealt you some very unfair cards at times, that you cannot make it in this world. because you can, you can not only make it, but absolutely smash it, in whatever your heart desires. Chase those dreams, because we only have one life so may as well make it all worh it!
